TOB / Installation asset making and audio

Having an orgianise itenary really helped us all stay on task and feel reasurred that we were on track, as such I created a group chat and would place an in-depth schedule of the rota for each week with timing adn where everyone would be and their task. This was filled in by asking people about their schedules and what they would like to be doing to help move the project along.

Before we could create anythign we needed mock ups, measurments and a material lsit. Sissi was placed on sketch mock up and miniture set desigb, Jay created a 3D model and I created a measurments lsit and we all qwuicly agreed to use soley cardboard as it was the easiest to find in the unvieristy building and weighed very little so would hopefully stand up alone.

This was all completed on day one. our next assignment was to wrok on our own signs over the weekend. As such, I started at the beginnign making sketches, taking measurments and getting anything I needed prepared for my next day at unvierity.

I knew I wanted to contiue workingon wood but I needed it to be lightwievht so it would not make the sgtructure fall down. I found this to be easier, as i had experimented at the beginning of my aniamtion and found the thinnest wood that still has a nice texture.

As I knew what materials I needed to get, I focused entirely on what I wanted to either project, engrave or paint onto the sign. I considered painting variosu different cave markings but decided to stay consistent with my aniamtion and began setting up my illsurator file to take the wood workshop.

I took a phtograph from my aniamtion that I felt had a nice compsosition and had some resemblance of the sea or water to keep on the,e of the artict. After finding a photograph fo em and my father athr beach, I began to take it apart and reasemble it.

I did this by scanning the photo in a few times and using photoshop to put different sections together and then I turned it entirelt black and white as I could sense the choas of the lines better and I knew what needed to be removed to make the image more simplistic to an audience and so that it communicicated the neccissary shapes to visualise two people playing at the beach.

This image was then moved to procreate where i simplified it futher and created bolder shapes, before taaking to illsurator. I decided to make the lines around my father red so I could cut him from the board. I wanted to take from my orignal ideas and decided to have him hang from the board as though he had fallen.

I made sure to stain my wood and then sent my file to the lazer cutter. After which my board was complete, I just needed to hot glue the cut out onto the edge of the board and attach my sign to the traffic light.

Once meeting back up with our group, I was tasked with completeing the traffic light with Jay. We worked togeher to measure and cut out cardboard pieces to hot clue together to make the top of the traffic light, realising it could be interesting to have one the lights shine. As a group we decided on having the red light visable.

In order to be certain only the red light would be visable, I made both the green and yellow light a different material that was not seethrough compared to the refelctive red light. As an extra procausion and so the light could sit in the top, I added a cardboard piece below the red light.

I found this task to be very fun and and working as a team to problem-solve was interesting as we kept spinning of one another to create something we all had interest in. In the end I was really proud of the the traffic head and was excited to see the final product.

Sissi was tasked with creating the stand and painting it the following day.

The next day I began to paint the structure black before we put the traffic light togerher and officially had our piece finsihed. However, we came across a problem, the structure desperately needed a stand.

I began to problem-solve with Jay and we found a scrap wooden piece that could act as a stand if we could figure out how to attach the pole to it.

With the help of technition assistants and the wood workshop team, me and Jay made a wooden structure to hold up the pole and began attaching all of our signs.

We then moved onto creating our touch designer files, collecting all our assets in one place. As I was having issues communciating with the group, I decided to make a one drive with a folder in each persons name to drop the assets in their own time. This went smoothy and individually I started to learn touch deisgner, going over Sunni’s notes from the workshop and researching on youtube.

I spent a day playing with the software and a loaned projector. This made making my touch deisgner file extrmeely easy and I was able to communciate with the group some basic level skills that would allow them to connect thier visuals to the projector.

After I had dragged my assets into my touch designer file, I dragged it into our shared document to allow everyone access to edit.

Regarding audio, both me and Jay worked as a team to create a mix of nature sounds that complimented the street strcture, it felt like a nice contrast. We found sounds on free sounds and mixed them on aftereffects.
